How to Host a Mahjong Lesson

A practical guide for teachers and hosts planning beginner mahjong lessons or guided play sessions.

Set the lesson level clearly

Beginner lessons should say that no experience is needed. Guided play should explain whether players need to know the basics. Open play should be clear about whether help will be available during the game.

List what is included

Tell guests whether you provide tiles, racks, cards, scoring materials, refreshments, or printed notes. Clear expectations reduce last-minute questions and help players feel confident booking.

Keep capacity realistic

Lessons work best when the host can give attention to each player. If you have multiple tables, consider ticket options by level so beginners, guided players, and open play guests can choose the right seat.
